CV prompts for Gemini, ChatGPT and Claude (9 to copy)

Chatbots can speed up CV writing, but only if you give them the right instructions and check everything they return. Here are nine prompts that work for Bangladeshi job applications, and the four jobs no prompt will do for you.

Short answer: paste your real duties and the job circular into Gemini, ChatGPT or Claude, ask for one CV section at a time, and tell the chatbot not to invent numbers. The nine prompts below do exactly that, one for each stage of a CV: bullets, fresher projects, career objective, tailoring to a circular, skills, proofreading, a cover letter and a recruiter's check, plus one for notes you write in Bangla. They are plain text, so they work the same way in all three chatbots.

Many people now open ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude before they open a CV template. That's a reasonable instinct. A chatbot is good at turning rough notes into clean sentences, and it never gets tired of rewriting the same bullet. But ask it "write me a CV" with nothing else and you get a document that sounds like everyone else's, with a few invented details for good measure.

The difference is in the prompt. Below are nine prompts that work for Bangladeshi job applications: one for each stage of writing a CV, plus one that turns Bangla notes into English bullets. Copy them, replace everything in [square brackets], and paste them one at a time. After that, there's an honest section on what chatbots still can't do for you.

Before you start: two rules

Give it real material. A chatbot can only rephrase what you give it. Paste your actual duties, projects, results and the job circular. If you give it nothing, it fills the gaps with generic phrases, or worse, with things you never did.

Strip personal details first. Before you paste anything into a public chatbot, remove your NID number, date of birth, phone number, home address and parents' names. None of them is needed to improve your wording, and you can add them back in the final CV.

Make a CV with Gemini or ChatGPT in 6 steps

  1. Collect your material: your old CV or notes, your results (CGPA and GPA), the dates of each job or internship, and the job circular.
  2. Remove personal details (NID number, date of birth, phone, address, parents' names) before you paste anything.
  3. Write the content one section at a time: Prompt 1 or 2 for experience (Prompt 9 if your notes are in Bangla), then Prompt 3 for your objective or summary.
  4. Tailor it: Prompt 4 with the circular, then Prompt 5 for skills.
  5. Check it: Prompt 6 for grammar, Prompt 8 for a recruiter's-eye read, and then check every fact, date and number yourself.
  6. Make the document: put the text into a CV layout, export a PDF, and check it with the free ATS checker before you send it.

Prompt 1: turn duties into achievement bullets

Most first drafts list duties ("Responsible for handling customer queries"). Recruiters skim past those. This prompt turns them into bullets that show what you did and what changed.

I am applying for [job title] jobs in Bangladesh. Below are my duties from my role as [your role] at [company] from [start] to [end].

Rewrite each duty as one CV bullet that:
- starts with a strong past-tense verb
- says what I did, how, and the result
- uses a number only if I gave you one; if a number would help, write [add number] instead of inventing one
- is under 25 words

My duties:
[paste your duties, one per line]

The line about numbers matters most. Without it, chatbots happily write "increased sales by 35%" when you never told them that. Every number on your CV should be one you can explain in an interview.

To see what finished bullets look like for a specific job, compare yours with our CV examples: each one shows weak and strong versions of the same bullet.

Prompt 2: a fresher's bullets from projects and activities

If you're a fresh graduate, your experience section is probably your thesis, projects, internships, club work or tuition. This prompt helps them read like experience.

I am a fresh graduate in [subject] from [university], applying for [job title] roles in Bangladesh.

Here are my projects, internship and extracurricular activities:
[paste them, with what you actually did in each]

For each one, write 2-3 CV bullets that show skills an employer would value for [job title]. Use only the facts I gave you. Mention tools, methods and outcomes where I listed them. Do not invent results.

For a complete example of a fresher's CV built this way, see the fresher CV sample.

Prompt 3: a career objective or summary that isn't generic

Bangladeshi CVs often open with a "Career Objective". The weak version ("To build a career in a reputed organisation…") appears on thousands of CVs. Ask for something specific instead.

Write a 3-sentence CV summary for me. I am applying for [job title] at [type of employer, e.g. a private bank / an NGO / a software company] in Bangladesh.

My background: [degree, years of experience, main skills, one or two real achievements]

Rules: no clichés such as "results-driven", "dynamic", "reputed organisation" or "proven track record". Mention the role I am targeting and two specific strengths backed by my background. Plain, confident English.

Prompt 4: tailor your CV to a job circular

Sending the same CV to every job is the most common mistake. This prompt shows you what a particular circular asks for and where your CV falls short.

Here is a job circular:
[paste the full circular]

Here is my current CV text:
[paste your CV, without personal details]

1. List the skills, qualifications and keywords this circular asks for.
2. For each, tell me whether my CV already shows it, shows it weakly, or doesn't show it.
3. Suggest specific edits to my existing bullets so they reflect the circular's wording, using only experience I actually have.
Do not add skills I haven't listed.

Use the circular's own wording where it's true for you. Screening software and busy recruiters both look for the words from the circular.

Prompt 5: fill in a skills section

From my CV text below, list my skills in three groups for a [job title] application in Bangladesh:
- Technical / job skills
- Software and tools
- Languages (with level)

Only include skills that my CV text supports. Then list up to 5 skills that [job title] circulars commonly ask for which are missing from my CV, so I can decide whether I genuinely have them.

My CV text:
[paste]

Prompt 6: fix grammar and tone without changing meaning

Proofread the CV text below. Fix grammar, spelling, tense consistency and awkward phrasing. Keep my meaning and all facts exactly the same. Use British English spelling. Show each change as: original → corrected.

[paste a section of your CV]

Asking to see each change lets you reject anything that alters what you meant. Do it one section at a time. Long pastes get sloppier results.

Prompt 7: prepare a cover letter from your CV

Write a cover letter for the job circular below, using only facts from my CV. Structure: a short opening naming the position, one paragraph matching my two strongest qualifications to the circular, one paragraph on why this employer, and a polite closing. Under 250 words. Formal but not stiff. No clichés.

Circular:
[paste]

My CV:
[paste, without personal details]

For the format Bangladeshi employers expect, see our cover letter format guide.

Prompt 8: a final recruiter's-eye check

Act as a recruiter in Bangladesh hiring for [job title]. Read my CV text below and tell me:
1. The first three things you notice.
2. Anything vague, unproven or likely to raise questions.
3. Anything missing that you would expect for this role.
Be direct. Do not rewrite the CV.

[paste]

Prompt 9: turn Bangla or Banglish notes into English bullets

Many people find it easier to describe their work in Bangla first. That's fine: write it the way you'd explain it to a friend, in Bangla or Banglish, and let the chatbot do the English.

I am applying for [job title] jobs in Bangladesh. Below are notes about my work, written in Bangla or Banglish.

Turn them into English CV bullets that:
- start with a past-tense action verb (present tense for my current job)
- keep every fact exactly as I wrote it
- write [add number] wherever a number would help, instead of inventing one
- are under 25 words each

My notes:
[for example: প্রতিদিন দোকানে দোকানে গিয়ে অর্ডার নিতাম, মাসের টার্গেট পূরণ করতাম, নতুন কয়েকটা দোকান যোগ করেছি]

Read the English back slowly. If a bullet says something you didn't do, or makes a small job sound bigger than it was, fix it before it goes on your CV.

What prompts can't do for you

Chatbots are good at words. A CV is words plus a few things they don't handle.

They don't produce the final document. You still have to put the text into a layout, keep the spacing consistent, fit the page, and export a PDF that looks the same on the recruiter's screen as on yours. Copying chatbot text into a Word file is where most formatting problems start.

They can't tell you what a screening system reads. Many larger employers pass CVs through applicant tracking software before a person sees them. A chatbot can't show you whether your two-column layout, table or header will be read correctly. Only parsing the actual file can. Our free ATS checker shows exactly what a parser extracts from your PDF, and the check runs in your browser.

They don't know local conventions unless you tell them. Where to put your CGPA, when to include a photo, whether a government application needs your NID and date of birth: chatbots default to American CV advice unless you spell out the Bangladeshi context. The Bangladesh CV format guide covers these rules.

They make things up. Every number, date, tool and responsibility the chatbot writes has to be checked against the truth. A recruiter who asks about an invented achievement ends the interview early.

Where PromptCV fits

PromptCV was built for the step after the prompts. You write or paste your details into a CV editor, AI helps with bullets and tailoring to a job circular inside the editor, you check your CV's ATS readability as you go, and you download a finished PDF in a template made for Bangladeshi applications. Building, editing and previewing your CV is free. You pay only when you download the clean PDF, and there's no subscription. You can start a CV without signing up and add the text your prompts produced.

Whichever route you take, the rule is the same: the chatbot drafts, you decide. Every line on your CV should be something you can talk about with confidence.

সাধারণ প্রশ্ন

Can I just ask ChatGPT to write my whole CV?
You can, but the result is usually generic and sometimes invents details. It works much better one section at a time, starting from your real information, and you still need to check every fact, date and number before you send it.
Is it safe to paste my CV into a chatbot?
Treat anything you paste into a public chatbot as shared. Remove your NID number, date of birth, phone number, home address and family details before pasting. They are not needed for the chatbot to improve your wording.
Will recruiters know my CV was written with AI?
They notice generic phrases such as 'results-driven professional' and 'proven track record' more than the tool behind them. Replace vague claims with specific tasks, tools and numbers from your own experience, and the CV reads as yours.
Which chatbot is best for a CV: ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude?
The prompts in this article work in all three. The quality depends far more on what you give the chatbot (your real experience and the job circular) than on which one you use.
Do these prompts work for Bangla CVs?
Most Bangladeshi employers expect a CV in English, so the prompts are written for an English CV. If a government circular asks for Bangla, add 'Write the output in formal Bangla' to the end of any prompt. Prompt 9 also turns notes you write in Bangla or Banglish into English bullets.
Can ChatGPT or Gemini make my CV photo?
Use AI only to tidy a real photo of you: a plain background, better lighting, a straight crop. Don't let it change your face or generate a new one, because the person at the interview has to match the photo. For government applications, follow the circular's photo rules and use a recent, real photo.
