About this sample
Factories and buying houses hire merchandisers on one question: can this person keep orders on time and on cost? This sample answers it with the number of styles handled, the TNA and costing work, the sampling stages and an on-time shipment figure.
It describes buyers by market and type ("an EU high-street buyer") rather than by brand, which is what most factories expect when a CV is shared outside the company. The same structure works for quality and production roles; the summaries and questions below show what to swap.

What recruiters check first
- Orders owned from enquiry to shipment. How many styles or orders a season, for which kind of buyer, and from which stage you were responsible. Recruiters want to see the whole flow, not one task.
- TNA and on-time shipment. Building and following the Time and Action (TNA) calendar is the core of the job. An on-time shipment percentage, or air shipments avoided, is the strongest single number on a merchandiser CV.
- Costing. FOB and CM costing, and checking yarn, fabric, trims and washing costs against supplier quotes. Say how many quotations you prepared.
- Sampling and approvals. Lab dips, strike-offs, fit samples, PP samples and their approval rounds. Fewer rounds means faster orders, so mention it if you cut them.
- Product and compliance knowledge. Knit or woven, fabric types and GSM, and familiarity with buyer compliance audits such as amfori BSCI or WRAP.

Skills to include
List the skills the job circular asks for that you really have, in its own words, grouped so a recruiter can scan them in seconds:
- Merchandising: Time and Action (TNA) planning, FOB and CM costing, Sampling: lab dips, strike-offs, PP samples, Shipment planning
- Product and quality: Knit fabrics and GSM, Trims and accessories booking, AQL basics
- Software: MS Excel (advanced), ERP order module, Buyer portals
Format tips
- Describe buyers by market and type ("a US value retailer") unless your employer is happy for you to name them.
- Give one number for each part of the job: styles per season, on-time shipment, quotations costed, approval rounds.
- For QC roles, lead with AQL inspections and DHU; for production roles, with line efficiency and operator count.
- Use a formal passport-size photo; most factories and buying houses expect one. A recent photo (last 6 months).
- Show your full academic record with each result on its scale. Start at SSC; leave out JSC/PSC.
Frequently asked questions
- What CV format is used for garments jobs in Bangladesh?
- A formal CV of one or two pages with a photo, a short summary, experience written as results, a full academic record from SSC, skills, personal details and two referees. Factories and buying houses read it in that order.
- What should a merchandiser CV include?
- The products you handle (knit, woven, sweater, denim), your buyers by market, the number of styles a season, your part in TNA, costing and sampling, and an on-time shipment figure. Add the ERP or order systems you use.
- How do I change this CV for a QC or quality job?
- Swap the merchandising bullets for inspection work: inline and final inspections, the AQL level you inspect to, DHU or rejection rates you brought down, and buyer audits you prepared for. The QC summary above shows the tone.
- Do garments CVs need a photo?
- Usually yes. Most factories and buying houses in Bangladesh expect a formal, passport-size photo. A recent photo (last 6 months).
- What should a fresh textile engineer put on a CV?
- Lead with your degree, department and CGPA, then your industrial attachment: the factory, the sections you worked in and one result, such as a line-balancing or costing report. Add the software you know and any internship in merchandising, production or quality.
